  • Safeguarding Children

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • Uses professional knowledge and understanding to identify signs and symptoms of child abuse or neglect.
  • Able to identify and refer a child suspected of being a victim of trafficking, county lines or modern slavery or sexual exploitation; at risk of exploitation/grooming by radicalisers, gang, and electronic media abuse.
  • Able to identify and refer a child at risk of FGM or having been a victim of FGM.
  • Acts as an effective advocate for the child or young person. Shares appropriate and relevant information.

         

  • SUPPORTED ACCOMMODATION COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • Detailed information on how to Quality Assure your service by Compliance Audits
  • Prepare your service for Local Authority Commissioning Team and Ofsted inspections
  • Prepare and gain knowledge on submission of Quarterly assurance submissions for Local Authorities and improve the standards of accommodation, staff competency and the outcomes for your young people.

 

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead
     

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • An understanding of the origins of the role.
  • An understanding of the 4 key responsibilities in line with legislation.
  • Separate the issues of complaints v allegations.
  • Increase knowledge of managing allegations.
  • Increase knowledge of making referrals to Local Authority Designated Officers.
  • Increase knowledge of investigations, outcomes, and potential Disclosure & Barring Service

 

  • Missing from Care
     

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • This will provide clarity between missing and absence and the response and expectations from the Police and Social Care from the Provider.
  • The national College of Policing definition for missing.
  • It also explains the Philomena missing protocol and a case study around the tragic death of Caitlyn who was missing 34 times whilst in care before being tragically killed by a man she met online.

 

  • Contextual Safeguarding

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • This session looks at the signs and symptoms around sexual & criminal exploitation including County Lines and our response as Providers. 
  • This includes potential referrals into the National Referral Mechanism for Human Trafficking and the issue of Child Abduction Warning Notices for anyone removing a Looked After Child from placement for the purposes of exploitation.
  • It also looks at the case of Tommy, an exploited 16-year-old Looked After Child who is found in a crack house hundreds of miles from home and Jess, a 16-year-old Looked After Child sexually exploited and found in hotel rooms with men.

 

  • Prevent & Radicalisation

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • This session looks at Provider responsibility to refer any young person into the Government’s Channel programme if radicalisation is suspected. 
  • This follows two Looked After Children who begin to display behaviour that if left unchecked could cause extreme harm to our communites. 
  • The session involves current trends, referrals and vulnerabilites that can be exploited for the purposes of a radicalised viewpoint.

 

  • Gangs & Youth Violence

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • Sadly, there are 28,000 young gang members and Looked After Children are being drawn into this awful situation.
  • The session looks at Gang and Knife culture and the desire for many of our children to identify as a “Gangster”.
    This follows the journey of Henry, a 17-year-old Looked After Child embroiled in gang membership who commits a drive by murder of an opposing gang member.
  • Legislation around knifes and trends regarding use are also highlighted.

 

  • Mental Capacity Act 2005

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • An increased understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 which applies to anyone 16 years or over.
  • What capacity and lack of capacity are and how to assess capacity.
  • Making a best interest decision if person lacks capacity.
  • Lasting Power of Attorney and Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment...both are under the MCA 2005

 

  • Substance Misuse & Exploitation

This is a half day course and can be delivered in person or works very well over Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

  • Increase knowledge of drug types and symptoms ranging from cannabis through to nitrous oxide
  • Increase knowledge of child criminal exploitation and how “laid on” drugs such as cannabis and vapes are signs and symptoms of the beginnings of exploitation.
  • Recording and incident reporting to Police and Children’s Social Care
  • Understand the correct referral mechanisms including the National Referral Mechanism for exploitation and trafficking.
